Although you can grow Snowdrops from bulbs they are best planted in the green and not  grown from bulbs. Snowdrop bulbs are sensitive to drying out. If they dry out too much they wont grow and flower. Buying in the green means buying Snowdrops just after they have flowered and are still in leaf, they establish in the garden much better this way. If you want to buy Snowdrop bulbs, buy as early as you can so they haven't been sitting in a hot store drying out.

How to Grow Snowdrops

When should I buy? As soon as available (usually September)
When should I plant the bulbs? Plant immediately after purchase. Snowdrop bulbs are prone to drying out and then will not grow if they have dried out
When do they flower? January and February. However there are autumn flowering varieties
What conditions do they like? A moist partially shady site
Where can I plant? Under deciduous trees, in grass, in borders
How deep should I plant? 10cm (4 inches)
How far apart should I plant? Plant in drifts
Any other care? Don't allow Snowdrops to dry out in summer, if they do they may not grow. This is why a moist site is essential. They aren't happy in pots and containers long term as they are prone to drying out in the pot
