How to Care for Houseplant Hyacinths

How to Care for Houseplant Hyacinths

Temperature
  • Hyacinths prefer a cool growing condition.
  • They can withstand cold temperatures as long as they are not below 2 degrees celsius.
  • The cooler Hyacinths are kept the longer each flower will last.
  • Houseplant Hyacinths can be kept outside on a patio or balcony as long as it is frost free.
  • Hyacinths go well with Azaleas, Citrus, Cyclamen and Cymbidium due to similar temperature requirements.

Watering
  • The temperature that the plants have been grown in will dictate the watering frequency. In most cases you will need to water every 1-2 days.
  • When watering you should never get the leaves or flowers wet as this will lead to grey mould (Botrytis) forming on the flowers.  The grey mould will deform the flower and can result in the plant dying.
  • Do not water the bulb, only the compost.
  • When watering use a watering can.
